Google's Chromium Blog, which chronicles the goings-on within the Chrome browser development team, announced on Nov. 11, 2019, that Chrome may soon begin shipping with what it is calling 'speed badging.'

In essence, this will identify slow sites to the end user, via a badge, load screen or context-menu item.

The idea is to notify users that the site theyare visiting is slow-running, due to some architectural quirk or, more likely, myriad ad and assosciate calls that serve to slow down the site's page load speed,

"Our early explorations will look at a number of Chrome surfaces, including the loading screen (splash screen), loading progress bar and context-menu for links. The latter could enable insight into typical site speeds so you’re aware before you navigate," according to the post.

Should this come to bear, cleaning up your sites of cruft will become the order of the day.
